The first time was in 2000 when Allan submitted a painting of an award-winning Black Lab, named Robyn, that he was commissioned to paint. In 2005 the same collector asked Allan to paint his Yellow Lab, named Taylor. Both paintings received the same honour six years apart. Allan will have Artist Proof prints of "Prairie Watch - Taylor" available for sale in January 2007. ![]() Ducks Unlimited Canada 2006 Art Print Portfolio Two of Allan's paintings have been selected for Ducks Unlimited Canada's 2006 Art Print Portfolio. Wildlife Habitat Canada unveiled Allan's painting entitled "Wintering West - Harlequin Ducks" at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa last week. Allan was the guest of honour at a stamp launch in Montreal on April 2 and at the official stamp launch in Ottawa on April 4. Painters @ Painter's 2004 It was just announced that Allan will be one of thirty BC artists featured at the 10th Annual Painters At Painter's art show held at Painter's Lodge in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Each year a new artist is selected by their peers to permanently join the group of artists at the yearly event at Painter's Lodge. The show offers the public a chance to meet the artists, attend demonstrations and discussion panels, view the gallery of artwork and watch the artists as they paint at various locations throughout the resort. The event sells out well in advance. British Columbia Ducks Unlimited 2004 Sponsor Print "Still Life - Barrow's Goldeneye" was created with the importance of wetland conservation in mind. Aside from his artistic intentions for the painting, Allan wanted to convey the idea that among these fallen timbers there is still life, and they provide valuable habitat for many species of wildlife. British Columbia Ducks Unlimited recently chose this painting for their 2004 Sponsor Print. Allan will have Artist Proofs available for sale in January 2005. ![]() New Limited Edition Print Due to the positive response to "In His Glory - Cougar" Allan is pleased to offer this painting as a limited edition giclee print. Giclee prints are digitally produced and provide the best color reproduction available. The edition is limited to only 95 prints and is printed on canvas, giving it greater appeal and allows for framing without glass. The prints have been very well liked and received the Peoples Choice award for Best New Reproduction at the 2002 ARTessential Show in Calgary last fall. ![]() Masterworks in Miniature 2003 In March Allan had the privilege of taking part in Masterworks In Miniature 2003. This annual art show takes place at Gallery One in Mentor, Ohio and includes works from respected artists from around the world. It was a real honor to have been invited and Allan looks forward to participating again next year. Alberta Ducks Unlimited 2003 Artist of the Year Just a few months after moving to Alberta, Allan was selected as the Alberta Ducks Unlimited 2003 Artist of the Year. His painting "Blue-winged Teal" will be featured on the stamp and this will be the third time Allan has participated in this conservation program. ![]() Scott Islands, British Columbia In June 2002 Allan was fortunate to be part of a group of artists asked to go to the Scott Islands, off the northern tip of Vancouver Island, to gather reference material for paintings that would become part of a traveling art exhibition to promote the protection of marine habitat on BC's central coast. The experience was unforgettable! The 11 1/2 hour trip offered spectacular sightings of Humpback Whale, Sea Lions, Dolphins, Auklets, Guillemot, Tufted Puffins, Cormorant, various Gulls, Eagles and a Peregrine Falcon! To capture the impact of the day required a big painting. The result: "The Big Picture - Sea Lions at Beresford Island" a 7 foot long painting! "Aside from the physical size of the painting, I wanted the viewers to consider the "big picture" of the natural world and the impact we have on it." ![]() Saskatchewan 2001 Conservation Stamp Last Spring Allan was informed that his painting "Sharp-tailed Grouse" was to be featured as the Saskatchewan 2001 Conservation Stamp. As Allan's art career began in Saskatchewan, he was honored to be able to contribute to conservation efforts that will benefit the province of Saskatchewan and its wildlife. ![]() Animal Art In The Park 2001 For a second year, Allan had the privilege of taking part in the annual art show at the Algonquin Gallery in Algonquin Park, Ontario. This year's show featured the work of the Group of Seven's Lawren Harris. Allan was thrilled to once again be included in the show. There were two of Allan's paintings on display: "Saw-whet Owl" and "Distant Distraction - Black Bear".
